English Winemakers Score Big in Decanter Awards

6 Gold Medals, 35 Silver Medals and 65 Bronze Medals. Quite an impressive feat for a wine region that was previously scoffed at, with little presence in wine enthusiasts hearts. But the buzz around English wine is real! The winners of Decanter’s annual World Wine Awards 2015 will be fully published in the July issue of the magazine, which reaches newsagents’ stands this Wednesday. Ahead of the full announcement we have summarised a list of all of the English wines that have won Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards this year.

What’s impressive is that along with some of the familiar faces, such as Chapel Down earning a much deserved Gold for their outstanding Blanc de Blancs 2009 (plus a strong yield of Silver and Bronze awards). There are a whole host of rising stars such as Hush Heath, Wiston and Camel Valley along with many smaller, lessor known winemakers.

Last year England had an impressive 55 Bonze Medal winners, but just 20 Silver and 2 Gold winners, so English winemakers have scooped a lot more of the higher-tier accolades this year.

I’ve also linked some of the winning wines to my reviews and tasting notes – you can be sure I’ll be seeking out a lot more of the winners over the coming months!
