Albury Estate – Blanc de Blancs 2013

Albury Organic Vineyard
Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc

This 4,500 bottle release of the Albury Blanc de Blancs is a blend of 53% Chardonnay with 47% Seyval Blanc. The 2013 sparkling wines were again vinified by Litmus Wines.

This is the first English BdB I’ve tried that is not a straight Chardonnay, and the Seyval has left its signature stamp of aromatic fruit and floral hints on the nose.

The palate on this is light, fresh and oh so very English. The flavour has this 'freshly picked green apple from an English orchard' character, which is really appropriate.

The Seyval Blanc draws you back in, as a curious layer of slightly tart gooseberry and greener notes become noticeable on the finish.

A great and fresh contrast to the richer and more textured Classic Cuvée.

This quality sparkling wine is quintessentially English. With its pale lemon colour, citrus and fresh herbs on the nose, and a really fresh, crisp lemon and lime palate. Well balanced with a hint of honeyed sweetness, it is ideal for drinking on its own, but with enough crisp acidity for it to go with foods such as smoked fish or light meat dishes.
