Denbies – Vineyard Select Ranmore Hill 2013

Ortega, Pinot Noir

I’ve already been very complimentary of Denbies Vineyard Select Series, this is another excellent entry; a blend of (white) Ortega grapes with (red) Pinot Noir grapes.

Really unique nose combining fresh strawberry notes with nutty vanilla, slight lime and white flower notes.

On the palate there’s a balanced medium acidity from partial malo-lactic fermentation and quite a fresh green apple richness. Then those strawberry notes from the nose really come to the forefront with quite a developed creamy mouthfeel. Smooth vanilla and nutty almond notes meld with a lasting fruity finish.

Very unusual, at times feels like a rose combined with long lees and oak ageing. A must try for those looking for a more adventurous English still wine.

Winemakers Description:

Complex nose reminiscent of wild strawberries, lime with a hint of vanilla. The palate is rich, full bodied and low in acidity for an English wine. This wine can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with creamy dishes.
