WINE REVIEW

Named after Kingscote founder Christen Monge, who sadly passed away last May. This is the Estate’s first ever Sparkling Wine, and is a blend of 30% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier and 20% Pinot Blanc. It is a youthful wine with one year and counting on the lees, though it is being disgorged on demand.

Very attractive pale golden colour in the glass, the bubbles are fine, lively and very persistent.

The nose is vibrant with orchard fruit and baked apple aromas, complimented by mineral and candied fruit notes.

The palate is quite diverse – punchy acidity makes an impact up front, and then there’s a wonderful fruity richness with flavours of apple, pear and peach. This follows through to a spectacular lengthy finish; a slight sweet brioche before a citrus tang and, unusually, hints of rhubarb.

This is a wonderfully approachable first Sparkling for Kingscote, a fitting tribute to their founder
