WINE REVIEW

Those (like me) who are on the lookout, will have noticed that the beautiful bright wines of 2018 are now a prominent presence on our local indie shop shelves. 2018 was a vintage to behold across Britain and much of France. These are wines that get the juices going and enliven those memories of long warm summer evenings. This is especially true as I write this now, looking longingly out the window on a dreary wet day.

This is a wine that is certainly reminiscent of warmer times. At first sniff, it is hard to navigate through the floral aromas and savoury herb nuances.

Like many wines from 2018, this carries a richer texture than previous vintages. A light to medium bodied palate delivers notes of asparagus, lime leaves and fresh peppery rocket. A springy acidity hydrates the senses, demanding a second sip.

An underpinning of salinity has been well noted amongst English expressions of Bacchus, and this wine is no exception. Notes of thyme and sage add a savoury component that would pair well with many summer dishes.

Albourne Estate suggest the following: goats cheese, Caesar Salad, rocket salads or a classic prawn cocktail.
