WINE REVIEW

English Red wine has a reputation for being thin and light. Whilst this particular wine is not going to challenge that reputation, I did enjoy its fruity easy drinking clarity.

Whilst visibly quite translucent, the Dornfelder has a most attractive nose of dark cherry and hints of spice.

Palate is fresh and fruity, but not overly sweet. It’s very clean for a red wine, with defined raspberry and black cherry flavours. Very mild to low acidity, this sips and flows very much like a slightly heavier rosé, but with more vibrant red berry flavours and a slightly smoky finish.

This won’t please fans of rich tannin-laced red wines, but it is an approachable and characterful light English red. A red wine for white wine drinkers?
