WINE REVIEW

I’ve long been a big fan of Peter Hall’s superb Breaky Bottom wines, and after a recent range tasting, the Cuvée Reynolds Stone emerged as the top wine in a stellar lineup. It’s a blend of 70% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier from the fantastic 2010 vintage.

Upon pouring, this wine has an immediately opulent nose with baked fruit, red apple, candied toasted macadamias (like those you get at a good Christmas market in Germany) and a beautiful top note of red cherry and cranberry.

The palate is sumptuous, harmonious and superbly integrated. Lemon cheesecake sums this up well; a bright lemon bite, creamy weight with an underlying toasted, buttery biscuit base.

Sublime, Champagne-like complexity with its intensity and development, but still with that driving acidity that reminds you that this is a superb English sparkling from a top vintage.

This wine is a real steal at £31.00 bottle; this is the ultimate in English sparkling indulgence at a very modest price.
