WINE REVIEW

It’s great when an English still wine is so good that it could stand side by side with great wines from other regions. Barrel aged Chardonnay is something I have a big affection for, but it’s quite a rarity in England currently.

The Kit’s Coty Chardonnay is Chapel Down’s flagship still wine, and the 2013 edition is the first of a series of premium wines to be released this year from the Kit’s Coty Vineyard. A new grown up and elegant look adorns the bottle with it’s distinctive labelling and subtle embossed texture.

The nose on wine is just stunning; ripe stone fruit aromas of apricot and peach, crunchy apple, hits of vanilla with a lovely buttered toast complexity that you wouldn’t usually associate with an English Chardonnay.

Moving onto the palate, it’s vibrant and fresh up front with bold acidity and punchy crisp green apple and lemon flavours. Then comes the lovely unctuous and creamy mid-taste of apricot and cream with buttery texture and toasted spice hints.

This is a real masterstroke from Chapel Down, a truly luxurious and textured experience.
