WINE REVIEW

We often talk about Pinot Meunier as part of a Classic Cuveé or Rosé blend, but rarely have a chance to taste it in isolation. This new release from Fox & Fox is, to our knowledge, the first English sparkling to made from almost solely Pinot Meunier (there’s a small addition of 5% Chardonnay for balance).

The nose is distinctive and unique; a fusion of ripe red apple and wild raspberry notes initially, but with more profound complexity of toasted nut, hints of whipped cream, mineral and savoury tones.

The palate is also notably different to Pinot Noir-based Blanc de Noirs. There’s still that bright, appealing red fruit aura, as well as a pleasingly weighty creaminess.

This is a fantastic food pairing wine with its surprisingly salty, mineral, savoury character, while a hint of winter spiced red berries makes this a perfect Christmas treat.
