WINE REVIEW

This sparkling wine from Hambledon was last year famously voted as the best wine in a blind tasting lineup organised by Noble Rot Magazine. The tasting compared eight Champagnes with four English Sparkling wines.

This Classic Cuvée is a blend of 70% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier and 10% Pinot Noir. Mostly made from juice from the 2011 harvest, with some reserve wines being incorporated for added complexity and balance.

A real standout quality is the evocative nose of baked apples, lemon, slightly floral with baked bread, sweet pastry and hints of red fruit.

The Hambledon really delivers on the palate with its bracing crisp acidity. Zingy almost sherbert lemon-like up front, before a most enjoyable rounded orchard fruit mix.

This lively sparkling is a real assault on the senses; so very intense and it’s clear to see why it went down so well at the aforementioned blind tasting.
