WINE REVIEW

This month sees the arrival of a rather unique small batch sparkling wine from Hampshire’s Hattingley Valley. Unique because it’s a blend of 74% Bacchus with 24% Pinot Gris. The grapes were bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel for 3 months before spending 5 months in the bottle on the lees.

White Admiral is a pale coloured sparkling wine with a slightly green hue and very lively medium sized bubbles.

The wine opens up with a light fruity and floral nose; aromas of lime, apple and slight peachy notes with aromatic hints of elderflower and lemongrass.

To taste, the wine has a soft easy drinking profile. Refreshing citrus zing of lemon and lime with hints of grapefruit. Crunchy apples and pears on the mid taste leading to a finish of elderflower with light grassy notes.

A curiously different glass of wine. The aromatic qualities of the Bacchus grape really suit this fresh and light approach to sparkling wine.
