WINE REVIEW

A new winemaker arriving on the Hampshire scene is something to be excited about, with the region delivering some of the most memorable and diverse English Sparkling wines over the last couple of years.

Led by Augusta and Robert Raimes, who have teamed up with Hattingley Valley winemakers Emma Rice and Jacob Leadley for this limited first release of 900 bottles. The wine is a blend of 54% Pinot Noir and 46% Pinot Meunier, spending 24 months on the lees with a 8g/l dosage.

The Raimes Blanc de Noirs opens up with a refined but colourful nose; rich with notes of citrus, light red fruit and warm brioche. Hints of spiced pastry entice you to take your first sip, and so we do!

For a first release wine, the palate is surprisingly rounded and full. A laser focussed acidity introduces zesty lemon, crisp red apple and tangy red currant flavours.

The finish is where things get really interesting – the journey taking a decidedly savoury turn with flavours of toasted nut and subtle spice.

Wonderful and smooth in the mouth, this is a superb first release from Raimes, and a promise of great things to come.
