WINE REVIEW

Both Hundred Hills Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs are always something I particularly look forward to. The latest edition of their Blanc de Noirs is made from Pinot Noir from the cool but concentrated vintage of 2021. Unlike many of Hundred Hills’ releases, the wine went through full Malolactic Fermentation.

On the nose, redcurrant and raspberry notes immediately reveal the grape’s Noir stylings, echoing the slightly bronzed hue of the wine. Then there are shortbread and pastry notes, as well as a refreshingly fragrant citrus burst.

The palate is a wonderful juxtaposed expression. It’s bright and brisk with a bone dry profile, but then there’s a really involving ripeness to the fruit with waves of apricot, cranberry and something a touch more exotic, perhaps Asian plum or even guava. There’s an underlying warmth to the fruit that balances the wine’s tightly wound backbone.

This is a striking and intelligent expression of Pinot Noir.
