WINE REVIEW
Regular readers of GBW will know that I love a dark, complex rosé, and so when I heard that Dermot and Ana had released a wine inspired by the rosé wine of Bandol, Rioja, and Corsica, I just had to try it. The wine is also a fitting tribute to loyal vineyard mascot Noodles.
Dear Noodles is a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from a total of five vineyards across multiple soil types that was aged in small old oak barrels for 12 months.
On the nose there are macerated strawberries, raspberries and dried cranberries, with pomegranate and blood orange peel.
With all that colour and concentration, the palate still packs a punch with its racy cranberry and lemon tang and zippy acidity. But the expansive richness of the red fruit commands attention, strengthened by bursts of pomegranate and savoury hints. It’s a textural journey, deep and complex and one of the most involving English rosé wines I’ve ever tasted.
This is a wine that would stand very comfortably alongside those very wines that inspired it.
