WINE REVIEW

Wiston’s Blanc de Blancs is something of a special wine for me. To date there have only been four vintages with this 2018 being the fourth, following in the footsteps of 2010, 2011 and 2015 – all of which I rated very highly. The superb 2018 vintage yielded some of England’s finest and highly-rated Chardonnay-based sparkling wine, and this offering from Wiston is up there with the very best.

Delicately golden in the glass, the ample bubbles lift floral aromas of orchard blossom, apple and lemon with a suitably inviting dose of buttery brioche and almond croissant.

The wine bursts onto the palate with crunchy green apple and zesty lemon, before softening to a fusion of baked apple, torched lemon and buttery brioche.

There’s a lovely warmth to this wine with its creamy lemon curd and almond nougat notes but there’s this brilliantly linear acidity that cuts through along with a glistening chalky minerality. As good as English Blanc de Blancs gets!
