WINE REVIEW
This is our first review of Hush Heath’s Sky’s English Chardonnay, named after owner Richard Balfour’s eldest daughter. What better place to start than the recently released 2015 vintage?
The wine has a very pale yellow colour with slight green hue, the clarity is accentuated by its clear bottle and elegant label.
On the palate, brisk lively acidity ushers things along with vibrant granny smith apple and citrus flavours. There’s also quite a punchy tropical edge to the wine – almost like a spritz of pineapple or passion fruit.
The finish is lengthy and complex, with lime zest, mineral, herbaceous and a slight subtle metallic note.
It’s a pure, clean and crisp expression of English Chardonnay, with perhaps a slight resemblance to youthful steely Chablis – only with a more vibrant underlying fruit character.
