WINE REVIEW
WINE OF THE MONTH: OCTOBER 2017
Whilst I personally enjoy English Pinot Noir, others can be put off by its seemingly light complexion and thin appearance. Step in Polgoon with their surprisingly rich Rondo & Pinot Noir red blend.
Polgoon is a beautiful vineyard sat on a hillside on the edge of Penzance and is run by husband & wife team John & Kim Coulson.
With the days getting shorter, colder and the autumnal colours starting to set in, I thought this is the perfect wine to help warm up and put a smile on our faces.
Upon pouring, the Polgoon red surprises with its luscious deep purple inky colour and vibrant magenta edges.
Aromas of ripe blackcurrant, fruits of the forest and bramble fruit with lightly toasted spices.
The palate is involving and full, with a vibrant tang of blackcurrant that leads to a ripe fusion of blueberry and plums. There’s an underlying savoury note and a distinct spice and vanilla flavour on the finish, which when combined with the light tannin makes this a pleasingly involving red wine.
